Ethiopia is widely regarded as the birthplace of modern Arabica. It’s in this part of the world that the crop is said to have been first discovered – and so perhaps it should come as no surprise that the crop is still thriving here. The mountain forests provide the shelter, altitude and soil-bound minerals that coffee needs to thrive, and are home to more than a thousand different varieties still growing wild.
In Ethiopia, as in many East-African coffee-producing nations, coffee is grown principally by co-operative organisations, consisting of smallholders, each of whom has control over just a few hectares of land or less. The lot you see here is the work of just such an organisation, which contains just 150 such farms. It’s to be found in the Agaro Goma district, in the Jimma zone in the country’s west. The co-operative is a relatively new one, having been founded in 2012, but it’s already proving a boon to its members – allowing them to command prices they could never negotiate on their own.
The coffee itself has been processed using the washed method, with cherries being hand-sorted before being soaked in concrete tanks for eight hours. The beans are carefully sun-dried before being hand-sorted again. The result is a coffee that’s clean and sharp, with the brightness of fresh lime and jasmine, followed by a body of smooth caramel and marmalade.

Orders without Coffee
All orders for coffee accessories (anything other than coffee) will be dispatched the same day if ordered before 2pm. Most orders will be delivered within 2-3 working days from when the order was placed.
Orders with Coffee
To make sure your coffee is fresh and packed full of flavour we order the coffee from our roasters as and when the orders are placed; you won’t find any stock of coffee in our warehouse! Because your artisan coffee is freshly roasted this means it may take a little longer for your orders to arrive at your door. We allocate 5 working days for all orders containing coffee. It will be worth the wait – trust us.
The process team at Coffee Tasting Club do not work over the weekend (yay!) so any orders placed between Friday after 2pm and Sunday will be processed on the following Monday.
International orders (without coffee) are usually processed and dispatched the same day if ordered before 2pm. Anything ordered after 2pm will be processed the next working day. International orders (with coffee) will take a little longer to be dispatched. All coffee is roasted fresh to order so we allocate 7-10 days for deliveries outside of the UK.
We ship all International orders on a first class international service but as we’re shipping from the UK please be aware that your order may take up to 7 working days after dispatch before it arrives with you.
All UK orders are sent on a 48-hour service via Royal Mail at a flat rate of £2.95.
Orders over £35 qualify for free delivery.
All International orders are sent on a 1st class international service via Royal Mail at a flat rate of £6.50.
