Brew your coffee at just the right temperature by using an accurate coffee thermometer.
One of the things that makes coffee such an interesting drink is its versatility. By varying the myriad of factors which contribute to the final product, it’s possible to achieve an enormous variety of flavour. That’s why we scour the world in search of very particular climates, and farmers with the skills to take advantage of those climates. That’s why we collaborate with roasters who understand the qualities of those coffees, and are able to get the best from them.
But the possibilities don’t end there – the brew matters, and so too do the other ingredients in your coffee. If you’re going to be pairing your coffee with milk, for example, then you’ll find that the latter contributes a great deal of the flavour and texture in the cup. It’s only sensible, then, to consider it carefully! If you’re going to be using foamed milk, then it’s as important to be as precise as possible – as small differences in temperature can make the difference between a delightful, creamy cappuccino and one that’s not quite so delightful.
You might think that you have a rough idea of where the sweet spot is, but with the help of a thermometer you’ll be able to eliminate the guesswork. That’s where the items you see here come in. They’ll clip to the side of your milk-frothing jug, and allow you to easily monitor the temperature of your milk as you’re frothing it – and without tying up your hands!

What different sorts of milk thermometer are there?
Milk-frothing thermometers come equipped with either mechanical dials or lcd-powered ones. Many baristas prefer the mechanical variety, which have a rustic charm and can be relied upon to endure high temperatures and moisture levels. Digital ones have their advantages too, however – they’ll display their readings precisely, and can be set to emit a bleep when the perfect temperature has been reached.
On this page you’ll find several specimens from Rhinowares, which are rugged enough to cope with even the most caustic kitchen environment. The mechanical ones are imprinted with unmistakable green and red zones – allowing you to easily see where the ideal temperature for your milk is.
Depending on the size of your milk-frothing jug, you’ll want to select an appropriate thermometer – one whose needle will be able to reach the bottom. On these pages, you’ll find both 5” and 7” sorts. Choose one to match your jug.
What if I want to control the temperature of my water?
The items you see here are designed to help you to create foamed milk – but there are other areas of coffee-making where temperature control is desirable. If you’re looking to keep your water at a fixed temperature, then why not check out our selection of kettles – the best of which will allow you to choose the precise temperature for your water, and have that temperature maintained for as long as required.
If you’re going to create great coffee, then you’ll need the right tools. For lovers of milk-based brews, a good milk thermometer is surely one of them!
