If you’re looking for a simple and flexible way to make a fantastic cup of freshly-brewed coffee, then look no further than the pour-over method. The principles behind it are simple – fill a conical funnel with your grounds, pour over water, and wait for delicious coffee to begin to drip from the bottom.
We stock a range of different drippers, in a range of different shapes and sizes. But there are few more popular than the v60 system, from Japanese manufacturer Hario. The v60 system is notable in that it isn’t made from just one component, but several. You can thus swap out any part of your v60 system and replace it with another.

What Are The Advantages In A Hario Product?
This arrangement has several advantages. Firstly, it makes getting on board affordable. You can buy an entry-level v60 system, and then gradually replace each component as time goes on. So, you might start with a plastic dripper, and then move on to a more luxurious ceramic or metal one. You’ll then be able to keep your old one as a spare, or for camping expeditions and other sticky situations.
V60 drippers are made from several different materials. There are ceramic drippers, which are best for preserving the heat of your coffee. There are plastic ones, which are the most affordable. There are metal drippers, which are the most durable, and there are glass drippers that’ll allow you to see what’s going on inside the funnel.
The V60 dripper comes with a ridged interior. These tiny grooves prevent the filter paper from clumping together in one place, ensuring that it’s spread evenly and that air can pass beneath the surface whilst the coffee is brewing. This in turn ensures that the grounds are spread out as evenly as possible, meaning that the maximum surface area is exposed to the water draining through the dripper. The result? Better extraction, and a better flavour for the resulting coffee.
Which Size Do I Choose?
The V60 is named after the ‘v’ shape of the funnel, and the sixty-degree angle of the walls. There are two sizes to choose from, here – the 01, which will make 1-2 cups of coffee, and the 02, which will make 1-4. Your choice, naturally, will depend on how many people you’re looking to cater for, and how thirsty they’re likely to be. Pair your dripper with a set of disposable filters of the appropriate size, and you’ll be able to make coffee right from the word go.
